What exactly is eco-innovation?

Balancing Economic Performance and Environmental Impact
Eco-innovation, which emerged in the 1990s under the leadership ofClaude Fussler and Peter James, is based on a simple yet powerful idea:environmental challenges are drivers of innovation.
It refers to allinnovative measures that significantly reduce the environmental impact of a company’s operations while remaining economically viable.
Why is eco-innovation essential?
As the two authors pointed out in*Driving Eco-Innovation*, this approach helps achieve three objectives:
- Improve efficiency (time, resources, costs),
- Enhance competitiveness,
- Responding actively to climate and social emergencies
At ECOMAISON, we use this as a central lever to help our members transform their products, materials and models.

More than 90 pilot projects: concrete lessons for your benefit
Since launching its innovation initiative, Ecomaison has supported more than 90 pilot projects in collaboration with its members, from concept development to conducting tests under industrial pilot conditions.
Whether it involved testing the incorporation of recycled materials, experimenting with new removable adhesives, or rethinking a product’s design with repair or recycling in mind, each project provided an opportunity to develop solutions with great potential.

“We’ve been following the program since its inception, and we enjoy learning about the innovations it offers as well as participating in the workshops.”
COFEL Group – France’s leading bedding manufacturer.

“We particularly appreciate the technical support, which provides us with an outside, expert perspective to fuel our R&D ambitions.”
CERLAND – A French company specializing in wooden outdoor furnishings.
These pilot projects helped identify key lessons learned, both from a technical perspective (material compatibility, processes, performance, etc.) and an organizational perspective (team engagement, stakeholder coordination, time-to-market, etc.).
